OUR PARTNERS

Mission – To build healthy, economically sustainable and productive local communities through the provision of holistic, inclusive and relevant developmental services
Vision – To be a leading local Community-envisioned organization that provides robust and sustainable services in the areas of health, development, charity and research that meet the needs of the community in a holistic manner
My project focus is to provide a platform in the community for women to exercise their leadership roles, create initiatives through entrepreneurship programs and women empowerment skills to end gender-based violence and eradicate intergeneration transfer of poverty.
Our work is focused in the North-Western province of Zambia, a largely rural region. Our team is based in the district of Mufumbwe. The programs we are developing to foster community engagement and support can be a model for other organizations in rural Africa.
Transforming Zambia was founded in 2017(?) under the name of Transformative Community Development Initiatives (TCDI). We are a community based and community led organization. Our founders are comprised of community members and led by an accountant and a social worker. We are people who have worked for both Government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s), both local and International for several years. Our team resides in the local communities we serve in the district of Mufumbwe in the North-Western province of Zambia. Based on the team’s experience, observations, needs assessment and baseline surveys, the following conclusions were reached:
1)There are some NGOs providing serves to the Mufumbwe district which are supplementing government’s efforts but most of the organizations have no local operation and do not have the necessary understanding of the needs of the communities they work with;
2) Most NGOs with community programs have not engaged the Community/Beneficiaries sufficiently to foster Community ownership and support.
3) The number of NGO’s and services are not sufficient to meet the needs of the growing population in the North-western Province.
We observed that there is a gap in coordination amongst these NGOs resulting in a poor referral system amongst organizations and even with the Governmental Ministries themselves. Each Organization only provides services being offered by their organization and no further referrals are made to other service providers. Transforming Zambia’s will fill this gap by:
1) Performing the needs assessment in the community;
2) Creating and managing programs to meet the needs;
3) Referring clients to other service providers when appropriate. We will accomplish this by creating a Provincial NGO/Government Ministries service providers’ database/directory to direct members of the public where to access each type of service.
